[Belgium] Silver candle stand Achille Van Acker (1898-1975)

Finely finished candle stand. Chalice with arms of Belgium central with on both sides bird figures and on top the candle stand, on base with text "Au Premier Ministre Achille van Acker. Les Membres du Conseil des Ministres en Souvenir de quatre années de Gouvernement 1954-1958".

Marked on bottom. *Van Acker was self-taught, a socialist and served four terms as prime minister of Belgium, of which 3 were rather short (due to the Royal Question) and one full term (1954-1958). He brought a system for social security to Belgium, wrote poetry and prose and for some time ran a bookshop together with his wife.
