[Merian] M.Z.

(1659), (4),283,(20) p., with engraved title, 12 double-page maps and 108 (double-page/ folding) views and plans, 19th-century vellum with gilt lettering on spine, folio.

Outer margin of title page enlarged with strip; text occ. sl. tanned. Very good copy with all maps present per binder's index, except facing p. 181 plans of Rauenstein and Lille (a non-present plate is antiquely crossed out as in other copies we have traced). In a (possibly later) edition with a longer title and smaller differences, the missing plate is no longer mentioned in the binder's index. With armorial bookplate of "C.W.G.V.N." [= Christophorus Wenceslaus Graf von Nostitz (1648-1712)] to inside front board. Contains fine maps of the 17 Netherlands and the provinces, and splendid profiles of the most important cities, including folding profiles of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Leiden, Brussels and Antwerp.
