Amsterdam, P. Marrat, 1699, 2 vols., 320; 358 p., letterpress titles in red and black, both vols. with identical engraved frontispiece, with 3 (large) folding, engraved maps and 8 plates (of which 6 folding), 19th-century turned (faux?) vellum with letterpress spine title, 12mo.

Both vols. somewhat foxed; vol. 1 with old annotations to flyleaf. Good set. The rare first edition of this important travel account. François Bernier (1620-1688), French doctor and traveller. For a short period of time personal physician to prince Dara Shikoh (1615-1659), the eldest son of emperor Shah Jahan. After the death of the prince, Bernier was for 12 years part of the Indian court under emperor Aurangzeb (1618-1707).
