Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, Gillis van Ledenberg, Hugo Grotius and Rombout Hogerbeets, all published in The Hague by Hillebrant Iacobssz., 1619, all with the Dutch lion as woodcut title vignette, all signed H. Potz at the end in print, all sm. 4to.

The struggle for power between the regent party of Holland and Oldenbarnevelt on the one side, and the stadtholder Maurice and his supporters on the other side, was decided on 28 August 1618, when Maurice had Oldenbarnevelt, Grotius and a few others put under arrest. Oldenbarnevelt was sentenced to death, Hogerbeets and Grotius were sentenced to life and imprisoned at Loevesteijn. Gilles van Ledenberg (secretary of Utrecht and follower of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt) was imprisoned in 1618 and committed suicide. He was still officially "punished" posthumously: his coffin was hung at the gallows on 15 May 1619. The indication "stilo novo" concerning the dates refers to the new Julian calendar, as opposed to "stilo veteri", referring to the old, less precise Gregorian calendar.
