[Schoolbooks] Ten 19th-century Dutch schoolbooks

Various publishers and places, 1810-1859 and n.d., all in orig. or contemp. (threadbound) wr. and sm. 8vo size.

Occas. defects, most vols. neatly put in paper covers. Incl.: (1) Biographische schets van den Ierschen reus P. Murphy. Amsterdam, A.H. van Gorcum, n.d. (c. 1860), 8 p., orig. printed wr., sm. 8vo. Loose, frayed and w. tears. Very rare, no copies in PiCarta. Sensational text on Patrick Murphy (1834-1862), who exhibited himself for money and was measured about 1860 as being 22 cm tall. The birth date of the giant is here erroneously indicated on 15 August 1836 (p. 5); (2) Verzameling van opstellen, handelende over onderwerpen van allerlei aard, en waarin de de regelen eener goede spel- en taalkunde verwaarloosd zijn, opdat dezelve door de schooljeugd verbeterd zouden worden. Door P.N. Muyt. Eerste stukje. Zaltbommel, J. Noman, 1823, VIII,44,(4) p., contemp. wr., sm. 8vo. First and final page browned from paper cover (old newspaper), else fine. Very rare, no copies in PiCarta. The work is listed there as consisting of two parts and having been published in 1824, but only known from Saakes, therefore "niet beschikbaar"; (3) De Duitsche kindervriend van P.F. Willemsen (...) in eenen Hollandschen veranderd tot een leesboek voor schoolen. Naar de zesde verbeterde uitgave. Tweede stukje, nieuwe druk. Zutphen, H.C.A. Thieme, 1820, 94,(2) p., orig. printed wr., sm. 8vo. Browned at the beginning and end from paper cover (old newspaper), else fine. This edition not in PiCarta. And 7 similar other works. (total 11)
