[Frederik van Eeden. In intriguing private binding] "De kleine Johannes"

'Geschreven in 1893 door Frederik van Eeden en opgedragen aan zijne vrouw.' Practice dummy (?) using the bookblock of the third edition published by Mouton in 1893 (first: 1887), with manuscript title p. in blue and red followed by the printed bookblock without title p. of 192 p., bound in grey linen with a pattern of blindstamped crossing lines geometrically decorated with small blue and red squares (in the style of the title p.), 8vo.

Linen waterst. and browned along edges, spine dam. With annotation in pencil on lower pastedown: 'Schenking Lion Cachet 1969' and with loosely inserted bookplate (?) of de Stichting Schone Kunsten ('SSK 1900') with annotation in pen: 'Nalatenschap Rueter'. The first annotation suggests involvement of C.A. Lion Cachet (1864-1945). The style of the binding and the title page point much more in the direction of Bart van der Leck (1876-1958), of whom the SSK 1900 indeed collected works. With: An ordinary copy of the third edition of De kleine Johannes, The Hague, Mouton & Co., 1893, (2),192 p., with lithogr. portrait by Jan Veth, orig. gilt cl. (total 2).
