[Bookbinding] Lot of five 18th-century cahiers

containing approx. 800 pages of French poetry. Signed and dated 1793. Bound in contemp. manuscript leaves. Wrappers soiled, one vol. with tear.

Though not a known poet, the enthusiast who filled these pages certainly seems to have been an erudite and talented devotee of classical poetry who uses the past as inspiration for his own Romantic oeuvre. The author of these manuscripts does not only display a vast knowledge of his predecessors and antiquity, but also a noteworthy lyric talent and mastery of form.
