Manuscript in Dutch in a single, well legible hand, 2nd half 18th century, with around 400 p. of Middelburg jurisprudence, alphabetically ordered and with sources, and a number of blank leaves for new entries between the letters, beautifully bound in contemporary marbled calf, gilt and ribbed spine with morocco letterpiece, all edges marbled in blue, 4to size.

Foot of spine slighly damaged, else very well preserved. Very interesting collection of local jurisprudence and ordinances, of cases that occured from the 16th century to around 1770. Contains for example: "Aanhouders van dieven" (1552, many stolen goods were found in a woman's home; she was punished by the cutting off of one ear and was banned for 50 years and 1 day); "Advertentien" (1758, rules for Middelbursge "Courantiers"); "Abolitie"; "Advocaten"; "Bannen" (those who returned anyway were "gegeselt en gebrandmerkt"); "Bastaarden", "Brandmerken"; "Beeldstormers"; "Bloedschande" ("... kinderen in hoererij geteelt hebbende..." and cases of adultery and incest); "Beurse snijders"; "Commercie compagnie'; "Doodslag"; "Doodslag aan zich zelfs" (suicide, several different punishments inflicted on the dead bodies); "Fraudateurs en fraude"; "Huisbraak"; "Hoerhuijsen"; "Kindermoort" (gruesome cases); "Kruiningen"; "Landverraderij"; "Moord" (gruesome punishments); "Overspel"; "Ontucht"; "Poligamie"; "Sodomie" (5 p., relatively many, for example: a 15-year-old boy is forced to witness the execution of his "socius", is imprisoned for 25 years and banned for life, and a 13-year-old boy who had supposedly had intercourse with a cow is burned at the stake); "Steelen"; "Tol"; "Sententie tegen een stier"; "Valsch speelen"; "Valsche munte"; "Vroetvrouwen"; "Vergifmenginge"; "Vrouwekracht"; "Vuurwerken" and "Westindische Compagnie".
