[Numismatics] Kokon Dukan, Kosen-Kahu, Zen

Place, publisher and date unreadable (probably c. 1800), 37 p., with numerous woodcut ills. of coins (incl. 2 VOC-coins and a few other Dutch coins), orig. threadbound wr. w. paper letterpiece on frontwr., bound as a blockbook, 22.5 x 16 cm.

A few small defects, but a very good copy, from the library of M. Servaas, with bookplate on inside frontwr. Tipped-in on inside frontwr., is a folding typescript and handwritten explanation of the title on paper with address of the Entomological Institute, Faculty of Agriculture, Sapporo. "The title is read "Kokon Zukan, Kosen-Kafu, Zen" (in Hepburn spelling) or "Kokon Dukan, Kosen-Kahu, Zen" (in Nippon spelling). It means "Price-list of Old Coins of Various Periods, with Illustrations". We found similar titles published in 1793 and 1799. Probably an extremely rare list of images, sizes and values of old (Japanese coins), but also including Dutch VOC-coins dated 1746, 1752 and 1754 and a Dutch Ducaton ("zilveren rijder") that can be dated back to the end of the 18th century.
