[Plan Rotterdam op cloth] Rotterdam.

Engraved plan by Dirk Sluyter with lettering engraved by Cornelis van Baarsel and his son Willem Cornelis van Baarsel, Rotterdam, Arbon & Krap, 1825, 41.5 x 52.5 cm., printed on cloth, with the title below the arms of the city flanked by the scales, top right an inset of the Dutch part of the course of the Rhine, top left an extensive legend in Dutch, English and French with 86 gates, bridges, churches, cemeteries, hotels, cafes, coffee bars and other public buildings linked to numbers on the map, folded in original (?) slipcase with chemise and printed paper title label, 10.5 x 7 cm. (splendid copy, strong printing).

Cf. Ratsma 17 and illustration 40 (first edition 1824); Scheffer, Rotterodamum Illuatratum I, p. 110-111 lists the 1824 edition and later editions, but not ours. Rare second edition of a beautiful pocket map, later editions issued in 1826 (according to Scheffer with extensive legend of 86 numbers as with ours) and 1837. The map is based on a plan by Munro from 1800.
