[Schiedam] Album amicorum with contributions by Emilie Knappert and François Haverschmidt

Poesie album of Mari Knappert (1871-1906), with contributions dated 1877-1881, 58 leaves, partly used on both sides with mostly manuscript contributions but also 7 drawings and two dried-flower pieces (1x defect), blue cloth with gilt-lettered "Poesie" on front board, all edges gilt, 23 x 15 cm.

Bookblock somewhat shaky. The original owner of the album was Mari Knappert, member of the prominent Schiedam family. He died in 1906 at 34 in Barabei, Borneo. The album contains an undated, signed contribution by Schiedam's best-known writer, François Haverschmidt (Piet Paaltjens), this concerns quotes by Victor Hugo and Leopold Schefer "Tot een goede gedachtenis in uw album geschreven door uw vriend [signed:] Fr. Haverschmidt." Also a contribution by his sister Emilie Knappert (1860-1952), dated Schiedam 25 Oct. 1877 (in Leiden, a street and a school were named after Emilie Knappert). Also contributions from other family members and members of other prominent Schiedam families, such as distillers Nolet, Janssen, Rijnbende and De Kuijper, and from business families such as Tollens, Bingham, Dunlop, Ledeboer, Mee and Ringlever, as well as the Van der Schalk family. The dried-flower piece was made by Jacoba Lucretia van Stipriaan Luïscius.
