Archive of the Soetermeer/ Simons/ Van Coeverden families, Rotterdam area

The most noteworthy items concern Simons and his family. Comprises a.o.: (1) Martin Carel Johannes Simons (1896-1941). "Mijn Vacantie 1915." Account of journey, (200) p., w. the following mounted items (mostly glued to upper margin): 5 manuscr. maps, 8 drawings, 22 photographs and 20 (col.) picture postcards, 1 mounted dried plant sample. Orig. wr. w. mounted title-label, 20.5 x 17.5 cm. W. family stamps and stamped address Amalia van Solmsstraat 23B Schiedam on first blank. Nice travel account, from Schiedam to Rotterdam, per train to Scheveningen, and visiting De Bilt, Zeist, Driebergen, Den Dolder, Oosterbeek, Utrecht, Arnhem, Velp, but ending abruptly after the last page. (2) Idem. Thirteen orig. photographs by M.C.J. Simons, var. sizes, all mounted on board, partly w. typescript/ manuscript titles, mottoes and classifications verso. Simons participated succesfully in a photo-competition in var. sections, the photographs are accompanied by lvs w. the published verson of 6 of his photographs, of which one original is present. (3) Ringbinder w. ca. 40 typescript, printed and manuscript (carbon copies of) letters, forms, diplomas and a few drawings, 1914-1940. Comprises letters by Simons addressed to J. Goudriaan, director of the Nederlandsche Spoorwegen, documents concerning Simons' employer Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij Agentschap Rotterdam, a letter to D.G. van Beuningen concerning the enlargement of a photograph, a questionnaire by the Groninger Rijwielenfabriek A. Fongers, Groningen, 1919, regarding a job at the factory and a few personal letters. (4) Brass token by Jos. Prinz issued by Gevaert, "Eeremetaal toegekend als 3e prijs 1928", in orig. leather box. (5) Two oval daguerreotype portraits in their orig. velvet boxes. (6) "Nieuwe Jaars Wensch" by Anna Petronella van Coeverden to her father, calligraphed text within handcol. etched border of 6 ills., first half 19th cent. (7) Marie Cornelis Johannis Soetermeer (1821-1857). (Landscape w. travellers). Drawing in brown ink, brown wash, 26.2 x 36.5 cm, signed and dated 1854 in lower margin (some superficial dam. from silverfish). (8) "Uit de nalatenschap van wijlen onze geliefden Zoon: Johannis Frederik, overleden den 16 September 1855, in den jeugdigen ouderdom van 26 jaren, wordt dit Praalwerk ter gedachtenis gegeven aan (...) M.C.J. Soetermeer." Album. w. manuscr. dedication dated Rott., 26 Oct. 1855 and signed by A.N. de By and P. de By in Soest. 20 steel-engr. views of German cities, cont. wr., obl. 4to size (loose, waterst. and foxed). Furthermore the archive comprises approx. 100 19th cent. manuscr. (occasional) songs and poems, 2 late 19th cent. alba amicorum (one loose in quires and without binding), a modern ringbinder w. approx. 110 mostly early 20th cent. family photographs and 7 late 19th/ first half 20th cent. family photo albums in var. bindings, w. a total of approx. 500 loosely inserted/ mounted photographs.
