Matham, J. (1571-1631). Two engravings: (1) Charity

Engraving from the series of 7 virtues, 14.5 x 10.2 cm, after Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617), numb. 3 and w. 2-line Latin verse, mounted at upper margins under passe-partout. Good impression on paper w. Strasbourg bend watermark, trimmed within the borderline. A few thin spots. Hollstein 258. W. unidentified, very intriguing 17th cent. manuscript with collector's mark "L.L.B. 964" (not in Lugt or Nagler). (2) The nativity. Engraving, 22.5 x 15 cm, after Abraham Bloemaert (1566-1651), signed "Ia. Matham Sculptor et excud", "Abraham Bloemaert Inventor" and w. 4-line Latin verse in the plate, mounted at upper corners under passe-partout. Good impression on paper w. eagle watermark; narrow margins. A bit foxed and creased/ smoothed-out folds. Hollstein 31. W. manuscript collector's mark of Amédée Faure (1801-1878) (Lugt 115) verso. Added: 1 other, a copy in reverse after Goltzius (Thalia).
