Sadeler (I), J. (1550-1600). Six engravings: (1-4) Rhetorica, Arithmetica, Dialectica and Musica

Four engravings from the series of 7 personifications of the liberal arts, all approx. 14.5 x 10.5, after Maerten de Vos (I) (1531/32-1603), all signed "Joan Sadler sculp. et excud" and "M. de Vos Inven." (and variations) in the plate, mounted at upper margin under 1 passe-partout. All good impressions, trimmed on/ just inside the plate marks. All. w. old owner's entry of Johan Matheman in lower blank margin, all more or less stained. (2) The early fathers. Engraving, 20.2 x 27 cm, after De Vos, signed "J. Sadeler auctor sculpsit", "M. de Vos figur." and w. 4-line Latin text in the plate, mounted at upper corners under passe-partout. Good impression, ample margins. Thin spot in the image at the left, sm. hole in left margin, smoothed-out central vertical fold, tape ghosts from former strips of tape in blank upper corners. Not mentioned by Hollstein 17-28, probably one of the series dep. the history of the first men. -and 1 other by the same after Gillis Mostaert (1528-1598).
