The first engraving from a series of 6 heroines from the New Testament, 18.8 x 13.5 cm, after Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617), signed "HGoltzius invent." and "I. Saenredam sculp.", numb. I, w. 2-line Latin verse in the plate, mounted at the upper corners under passe-partout. Fine impression on laid paper w. pot watermark (cf. Churchill 465), trimmed to/ just outside the plate mark. W. neatly closed tear in right margin (invisible on recto). Hollstein 35, 1st state (of 6). -and 2 others by the same, after Goltzius (in turn after Caravaggio, from a series of 8) and after A. Bloemaert (the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Paradise, Hollstein 4, 1st state (of 2), very good copy w. ample margins).
