Furnius, P.J. (ca. 1545-1610). The history of Rome
Series of 5 (of 6) engravings, each approx. 22 x 29.5 cm, after Jan van der Straet (1523-1605), numb. 1-5, the 2nd print w. address "Antverpiae apud Carolum Collardum 1573", the 3rd print signed "P. Furnii fecit", all prints w. extensive verse below the image, mounted at upper corners under passe-partouts. Good impressions, 2 lvs w. watermark cross of Lorraine, all lvs trimmed on/ near the plate mark. Glue from former mounts verso, the sheets a bit puckered. Hollstein (Furnius) 14-18, Hollstein (Van der Straet) 295-299, only state. The artist is also known as Pierre Dufour, Pierre Jalhea de Foere and variants, the artist worked in Antwerp in Plantin's printing office during the years 1563-1571.
