Complete set of 4 engravings, all 20.5 x 25 cm, after Gerard van Groeningen (act. ca. 1561-1576), the first print w. address "Gerar. d. Iode excud.", titled "Strenitas", "Gratitudo", "Continentia" and "Beneficentia" and w. 2-line descriptive Latin text in the plate below the images. Mounted at upper corners under passe-partouts. All fine impressions on paper w. gothic P watermark (all lvs), w. very good margins. All sheets evenly yellowed, marg. foxing and with smoothed-out central vertical fold. Very rare complete set.
New Hollstein (Gerard van Groeningen), 195-198, first state (of 2). The artist is also known as Pierre Dufour, Pierre Jalhea de Foere and variants; he worked in Antwerp in Plantin's printing office during the years 1563-1571. (total 4)
