Muller, H. Jansz. (1539/40-1617). The ten commandments
Complete series of ten engravings, all ca. 21 x 24.5 cm, after Maarten van Heemskerck (1498-1574), numb. 1-10 in lower l. or r. corners, all signed "MHeemskerck Inventor" or similar and all w. address "Phls. Galle excud." or similar, signed H. JMuller fecit" or shorter on plates 5, 7 and 9, all w. Latin text below the image, mounted at upper corners under passepartouts. All fine impressions on paper w. watermark gothic "P" and countermarks (apparently all sheets), w. good margins. All. lvs. w. tiny holes in left blank margins from formerly being threadbound together, as was done by (travelling) printsellers in earlier ages, to keep sets like ours neatly and unobtrusively together. A very good, rare complete set w. minor imperfections. New Hollstein (Van Heemskerck) 65-74 and New Hollstein (Muller) 9-18, all second state (of 3 or 5).
