Sanja Ivekovic (1949, Zagreb) was one of the first feminist artists to emerge from the former Yugoslavia’s experimental art scene of the 1970s. In 'Tragedy of a Venus' she presents a selection of tabloid photos of Marilyn Monroe juxtaposed with similarly composed snapshots of herself, reflecting on the prescribed ideals of femininity by Hollywood and consumer images. In Double life, she created a series using fashion magazine advertisements juxtaposed with her private photos. (total 2)
