New York Graffiti Writers 1972-1984. Ultra rare catalogue with original spray painted works
New York, Gallozzi La Placa Gallery, 1984. Clipbound blue cellphone wrappers, 43.5 x 28.2 cm, with original tags by around 8 graffiti artists, spray painted in silver, gold, and white. Houses 20 full sheets with text, and 12 half-sheets, 19.5 x 28.2 cm, featuring colour copied photographic images of tags and works on canvas. The title page contains an original spray painted work in three colours.
Catalogue for the show held from May 19 through June 6 1984 at New York's Gallozzi La Placa Gallery, featuring works by A-One, CoCO 144, Delta 2, ERO, MICO, part 1- Phase 2, Rammellzee, Sharp, Snake 1, Toxic, and LA II. Foreword by Joseph La Placa and Guillaume Gallozzi, essay 'Reading, Riding & Writing' by Duncan Smith, and an interview titled 'United Graffiti Artists 1972 to 1984' with Coco 14, Hugo Martinez, Phase 2, Joseph La Placa and Guillaume Gallozzi. A stunning signed and customized historical gem, no other copies traced. One copy was exhibited at the Venice Biennale (The Bridges of Graffiti, 2015), and two copies (all unique) are held in the collection of the Dutch Graffiti Library in Amsterdam. Wrappers with some bubbling, creasing and small tears; rear wrappers with taped repair, otherwise in very good condition.
