Library stamp and ticket (Bibliotheca Hageveldensis) on upper pastedown, lacks first free endpaper. Traces of former tickets on spine. A very good copy of this finely printed work, in Gothic types and partly in civilité, the alphabets in several different types. The other titles read: Ruygh-bewerp vande redenkaveling, ofte Nederduytsche dialectike, Kort begrip des redenkaveling, in slechten rym vervat and Rederijck-kunst, in rijm opt kortst vervat. The very rare and important first collected edition of the first official Dutch grammar, first published in parts by Plantin in Leiden from 1584 until 1587. The most important rhetoric chamber of the 17 Provinces, the Amsterdam chamber "In Liefde Bloeyende", of which all important people in Amsterdam were members, continued the revival of the Dutch language as started by Van Mussen, Vande Werve, Plantin, Kiliaen, Becanus and Coornhert. The Chamber commissioned Henri Laurensz Spiegel, Gideon Fallet, Roemer Visscher and Dirck Volckertsz. Coornhert to compose a Dutch grammar. Coornhert only wrote the introduction, Spieghel is now considered to be the main author. The work was later republished as "Kort begrip, leerende recht Duidts spreken".
