Swanevelt, H. van (1603-1655). The history of Adonis

Four (of 6) etchings, ca. 25 x 33 cm, the first one unnumb., the others numb. 3-5, all signed and w. address "Herman van Swanevelt fecit et Excudit cum previlegio Regis 1654". All w. French 4-line verse below the image, mounted at upper corners under passe-partouts. Very fine impressions on paper w. circular watermark (3x) and crowned coat of arms w. golden fleece chain, 3x w. narrow/ thread margins, the 4th print w. good margins. Good copies, all w. smoothed-out central vertical fold, 4th print a bit foxed and w. sm. closed tears, versoes of the other prints w. traces of glue from former mounting (sl. visible recto). Hollstein 18 and 20-22, first state (of 3 or 4). -and 1 other w. equal size from the series of 4 etchings dep. hermits (Hollstein 15, first state (of 3)).
